Cingular 8125 Smartphone Reviewed
O.K. Here’s the scoop on the Cingular 8125. I wrote a previous post and gave you all the specs on this model. Today I will give you the real world review. I checked out CNET’s review and I have to say they were a bit harsh in their rating. They give the smartphone a mere 6.7 editors rating. I disagree with that number. I rate this phone a 9.0 and I’ll tell you why. The Cingular 8125 is by far the biggest workhorse of a smartphone you can own. Having owned and tested this phone for the last 30 days I was very impressed with the long battery life. Even after using WiFi and Bluetooth for extended periods of time this battery refuses to die. The WiFi and Bluetooth performance is excellent!
| As far as form factor goes, the phone is no Razr, however we all knew that. Shown is the Cingular 8125 next to a Nokia 6200 for size comparison. As you can see the 8125 is not a giant by any means. | |

Here you can see the 8125 next to a Toshiba e series pocket PC. This
should give you a good idea about the size of the device. The 8125 is slightly clunky but not enough so that it does not fit in a pocket. The bit thicker form factor is a small sacrifice considering that this smartphone does everything!

| Here the 8125 is displayed next to the Plantronics Discovery 640 Bluetooth headset. Again you can see that this is not the clunky device that CNET claimed it to be. | |
| Here we have a shot of the screen of the 8125. This device is equiped with Windows Mobile 5 Smartphone Edition. Performance of the O.S. has been good although since it is Windows I did have to restart the device on occasion however it has been infrequent. |
The Cingular 8125 is a quad band device which means you can use it on just about every continent with GSM service. One thing I would strongly recommend would be to add the Opera browser with java support to this phone as soon as you get it. I will get into the Opera Mini and Opera for Mobile in a future post. Bottom line without java in your browser you’re limited as to what you can do. Do you want the ability to charge your customers credit cards from your Cingular 8125 on PayPal Virtual Terminal? Add Opera and then you can. The 8125 also comes with a 1.3 megapixel digital camera with video. The picture quality is not bad for a camera phone however a 2.0 megapixel or higher camera would be nice. The video quality is not bad however the audio quality seemed a bit distorted. This can probably be minimized by adjusting the levels before filming. To sum things up the Cingular 8125 is a Quad-Band (GSM 850/900/1800/1900) worldphone with WiFi, Bluetooth, EDGE and Infrared. Sporting Windows Mobile 5 a full QWERTY keyboard, 1.3 megapixel camera with video and push email support, this phone is for true road warriors. The call quality is excellent and the form factor allows you to fit this device into a pocket. If you need to stay connected to the office or take your office on the road, the Cingular 8125 is a great solution.
