Handheld device manufacturer, Palm Inc., is getting set to unveil yet another new version of its Treo smartphone product next month in the European market.

“The announcement is going to be made in the U.K. on September 12, and we will give all the details then but at the moment all we are saying is that it will be out before the end of the year,” said a Palm spokeswoman.

Analysts believe that a September or October release of this product will be vital if the PDA pioneer hopes to stand up to intense wireless email competition during the busy Christmas shopping season.

Details about the new smartphone remain sketchy for the time being. The firm had previously stated that the next Treo device would be powered by Microsoft’s Windows Mobile operating system, and run on Vodafone’s 3G cellular broadband network.

It has also been rumored that the next Treo will feature built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth technology, allowing it to better compete with rival devices from Nokia, Sony Ericsson, and other manufacturers.
