YouTube Pulls 30,000 Videos

YouTube has removed nearly 30,000 videos from its Web site because Japan’s entertainment industry said the videos contained copyrighted material.

The Japan Society for Rights of Authors, Composers and Publishers said on Friday that it has asked YouTube.com to put filters in place, and take other steps to ensure that unauthorized content doesn’t appear on the site in the future.

The society asked for 29,549 videos to be removed. This indicates the sheer number of videos on the site that are copyrighted. YouTube users typically upload videos which contain music or images from copyrighted works that are incorporated into their own videos.
Even though YouTube has signed deals with major media labels they are still being investigated by media companies seeking legal action to remove other copyrighted works.

MySpace.com is now the leader in internet streamed video with 1.4 billion streams, followed by Yahoo, which had 823 million video streams. YouTube placed third with 688 million streams.
