Go Daddy Hosting Service Issues
Today was the fourth time in the month of October 2006 that I have had to call GoDaddy.com support. The first issue this month was related to a hardware issue which managed traffic for the shared hosting server that my website and blog was located on. Fine. It happens right? No. When a hosting company who claims to be the largest hosting provider and claims to have 99.9% uptime forces me to call in multiple times per year because I can’t access my website or blog, that’s a problem.
When my website and blog go down my customers can’t reach me. That’s a problem. GoDaddy claims a 99.9% uptime guarantee on network. What does the “on network” part of the guarantee entail? Is that a way to say that if the shared server that my website and blog are located on crashes that doesn’t affect the 99.9% on network guarantee?
Today I called support once again for the same issue. Stats reporting. The stats reporting package that I pay for is called Traffic Facts. I pay for this service so that I can see the statistics for my website such as referrer information, page views, visitor information, etc. I was unable to access the stats for the period through 10/25/06. Is it crazy for me to want to see the stats for the previous day’s website activity at 10am the next morning? Should it take 48 hours to compile these stats? No. This is a recurring issue that has gone unresolved and unacknowledged by GoDaddy.com.
Even if I download the raw log file from the web server I still am unable to access the previous day’s stats! That’s just not right. Now correct me if I’m wrong but shouldn’t a server log file be updated in real-time? I subscribe to the Traffic Facts service in the first place because GoDaddy won’t give me access to my website log file unless I do! That’s just wrong.
I have placed three calls to GoDaddy.com support this month for the stats issue alone.
- 10/14/06 unable to access stats from the previous day. Spoke with Chris who indicated they were having an issue and I was told to wait.
- 10/20/06 unable to access stats from the previous day. Spoke with unknown rep who indicated they were having an issue and I was told to wait.
- 10/26/06 unable to access stats from the previous day. Spoke with Wayne who apologized and indicated that it takes up to 48hours to compile the reporting and I will just have to wait.
Dear Mr. Bob Parsons, President of GoDaddy.com, if you are reading this post please consider spending less on superbowl commercials and models with boobs and reinvesting some of that cash into your network infrastructure. By doing so you will help to insure that thousands of customers just like me will not have to wait up to 48 hours for their stats and will not have to call you several times a year because they cannot access their website or blog. You have accomplished a great task by becoming the world’s largest hosting provider and that is nothing to sneeze at. Now keep that status by making your customers happy.

Hey EG …
Im sorry to hear about your troubles with Godaddy Hosting ..
For this same reason I always tell my friends and clients NOT to use hosting from a company that does hosting as a “value added” service (such as godaddy, yahoo, et al). If you make your livelihood online, then you need your website(s) to be hosted at a company that specializes in only hosting.
I have been a reader of your blog for a while now, and would like to make you an offer - I would like to give you 3 MONTHS FREE hosting to try my services .. I have a brand new 30,000 foot datacenter in Baltimore, MD and my bandwidth is some of the finest in the USA (Level3 and Hurricane Electric).
I will host your blog and website, give you a full control panel, email, FTP access and unlimited domains. If after 3 months you decide to stay with me, my rates are $10 a month for 50GB of transfer and 2000MB storage. Larger packages are available also, but I dont want this post to come across as spammy. Please email me if you are interested (you should have my email attached to this post).
Is there any catch?!? Sure there is! If you like my services, that you refer me to your friends and acquaintences … and I would also be keen on doing a few hardlink trades with you and your site(s).
Rock On My Friend!
GG
Thanks for the offer.
