Sony launched its hotly anticipated PlayStation 3 game machine early Friday morning at retailers around the country. Supply was constricted, but a whole truckful of units went to the PlayStation Store in Metreon, the upscale retail complex in downtown San Francisco, formerly owned by Sony.

Microsoft signed a deal with Novell Inc., one of the providers of Linux, in which Novell paid a lump sum in return for a guarantee that Microsoft would not sue Novell’s clients for what it calls a violation of its own patents in the Linux program.

A Microsoft executive is denying reports that they have encoded a “Kill Switch” function into their Office 2007 product which would enable them to disable the Office suite after activation.
