63 Percent of Computer Users Surveyed Won’t Upgrade to Vista

According to a Poll being conducted by ElectroGeek.com on their blog, 63% of the PC users surveyed will not upgrade to Windows Vista. Instead they will be sticking with Linux.

There are a variety of reasons that PC users may be sticking with Linux as opposed to upgrading to Vista. Citing changes to the Microsoft End User License Agreement (EULA) that is being shipped with Vista , many users feel uncomfortable with the restrictions that have been placed on the way that end users can utilize the new operating system.

Restrictions include the inability to easily reinstall Vista after a hardware failure such as a motherboard or hard drive. Although it is possible to reinstall Vista after a hardware failure it may require extra steps such as contacting Microsoft by phone which previously may not have been needed with other versions of the Windows operating system.

There are some obvious benefits to running versions of the Linux O.S. such as Ubuntu which include the cost: It’s free. The licensing: You can install it on as many PC’s as you wish.

There are also drawbacks to running Linux such as: limited hardware support for certain devices, lack of a true “plug and play” hardware detection such as that found in Windows and the inability to run most popular Windows applications. Apparently those Linux drawbacks are not severe enough to entice the majority of those surveyed to upgrade to Windows Vista. What will you do? Take the ElectroGeek Vista Upgrade Poll now and make your Vote count!
