Clarification came today from Gateway, the Irvine computer company that issued a voluntary recall yesterday on laptop batteries that had a tendency to overheat and cause a fire hazard.

I immediately thought about last year’s fiasco with the Sony laptop batteries that forced Dell, Apple and other computer makers to recall their own laptops. At the time, Gateway said it wasn’t affected.

Yesterday’s new news is all about overheating batteries, Lisa Emard, a Gateway spokesperson told me five minutes ago. But they’re not Sony batteries.
