Best Buy Loses Laptop Woman Sues for $54 Million
After bringing her laptop to Best Buy’s “Geek Squad” for repair, it was never to be seen again!
According to an article published on DailyTech, Raelyn Campbell brought her laptop into a Best Buy store in the D.C. area and gave it to the Geek Squad to fix a broken on/off switch. They then informed her that it would take two to six weeks for the repair to be completed.
She dropped off the laptop in May. After several attempts to retrieve her laptop from Best Buy, she contacted them in August at which point they were unable to account for her missing laptop. Apparently Best Buy admitted that the laptop had never left the store to be sent out for repairs. Best Buy allegedly claimed that the laptop was lost in the store. Raelyn Campbell never saw her laptop again!
Best Buy employees had been lying to this woman about her laptop all along. From the time she dropped it off in May until August when she confronted them again demanding a resolution. Raelyn realized that she had personal information stored on the laptop and became greatly concerned about identity theft. After bringing her concerns to Best Buy and Geek Squad management, Best Buy rejected her demands for proper compensation. As a result, Raelyn has filed a $54 million dollar lawsuit against Best Buy and their Geek Squad.
Raelyn commented that she filed the lawsuit to bring attention to Best Buy’s “atrocious” customer service. She also stated, “I can’t help but wonder how many other people have had their computer stolen (or) lost by Best Buy and then been bullied into accepting lowball compensation offers for replacement expenses and no compensation for identity theft protection expenses.”
