iPhone update helps but it’s still no ATT Tilt
The iPhone software update is coming but there’s still one major feature lacking.
By now you have probably heard that Apple is planning a software update which will bring Exchange support, true push email, professional level security and configuration features to the iPhone. This should make it a fierce competitor to the Blackberry, Windows Mobile and other similar smartphones that are currently on the market.
Included in the update is Microsoft ActiveSync support which will enable users to sync their email, calendar and contacts with Outlook without using a 3rd party application. There’s even supposed to be Cisco VPN support, remote wipe capabilities and Wi-Fi security with WPA2 encryption.
So by now you’re think what does this have to do with the title of the post? Here it is: the ATT Tilt already has all of these features and one big bonus that the iPhone update doesn’t come with. A QWERTY keyboard.
Have you ever tried firing off an email on an iPhone? It’s just not the same as using a good old QWERTY keyboard. It’s slow and unreliable. True road warriors need a QWERTY keyboard on their smartphone.
If Apple really wants to join the enterprise capable smartphone party, they had better plan on a redesign which includes a QWERTY keyboard. It will never be true enterprise device without one.
