Posted on March 12th, 2008 by ElectroGeek
The Japan trade and economy ministry has been notified of a possible defect with the iPod Nano mp3 player which causes sparks to shoot out of the device while charging.
The model number of the device with the possible defect is MA099J/A. According to reports Apple apparently reported the problem to the ministry in March. There were no known injuries to date.
The defect is believed to be caused by a possible problem with the lithium-ion battery which the iPod Nano uses. Apple is believed to have shipped about 425,000 of the same model iPods to Japan.
It is currently unknown who manufactures the battery for that model of ipod Nano which is produced in China.
