Wal-Mart Says No to Linux
Wal-Mart will no longer be selling Linux based PC’s at it’s retail stores.
According to reports, customer demand wasn’t there for the Linux based gPC’s made by Everex of Taiwan. Wal-Mart had sold out their in store stock of the $199 dollar Linux PC’s but decided not to re-order.
Apparently demand for the Linux PC has been greater online, as a result Wal-Mart will continue to sell the Linux PC’s on their website walmart.com.
Linux has yet to capture any measurable share of the desktop market, however it is widely used on business class servers throughout the world.
Main advantages of Linux include:
- Most versions are free
- It typically uses less memory than Windows
- More secure than Windows
Despite the clear advantages of running Linux, the average PC user has not adopted Linux as their primary operating system for everyday use.
