2009 Nissan GT-R Porsche 911 Turbo Killer

Looks like Porsche engineers better get the 911 Turbo back to the shop. The 2009 Nissan GT-R has them beat!

The legendary Nissan GT-R will finally be available in the U.S. and when it arrives it will be packing a healthy dose of twin turbo horsepower. High gas prices? Who cares? This baby was built with one objective in mind. Serious performance.

Specs include:

  • 480 HP Twin Turbo Charged V-6 Engine, 430 lb-ft of torque
  • All Wheel Drive
  • Bilstein® DampTronicTM suspension
  • Massive Brembo® 15″ brakes with 6-piston front and 4-piston rear
    calipers
  • GR6-type dual clutch transmission with paddle shifters and three driver-selectable modes
  • 4-wheel independent suspension
  • Multi-function display, including performance monitor with choice of 11 screens including 4 customizable displays
  • 9.3GB Music Box audio system with room to store up to 2,900 songs

Here is the most import spec of all: 0-60 in 3.3 seconds with a quarter mile time of 11.6 at more than 120 mph. Those numbers place the 2009 GT-R into supercar status and make it faster than the Ferrari, Viper and even the Porsche 911 turbo.

All that performance comes with a price, however not as much as you would expect. The 2009 GT-R is expected to start at $69,850. Better get on the list because these will be a limited production run. Check out gtrnissan.com for more information.

  1. How dare anyone compare these two cars! Anyone who truly knows cars and quality would laugh and be insulted by such comments. I could by a Honda and put 20 grand into it and beat a Lamborghini with no problem in 0-60. But thats not the point…. Nissan can only hope to be compared to a legend, and frankly should never be!

  2. Mike,
Your comment is the best that I’ve ever read on any blog concerning the Nissan GT-R. Your tuned Honda example, I couldn’t have said it better.

  3. it is a nice way to put it!is this a joke or what in comparing a giant to a moskito?sorry but who dares to compare himself to a porsche turbo?

  4. Did you actually run the specs on the 911 Turbo. The GT-R will kick it’s ass. This thing is quick.

  5. Mike,
Funny thing about legends, most are losely based in fact, but shrouded by mystery, not supported by fact-much like a fairytale!
If you don’t want to see a legend-look at the Nissan(aka Datsun) 240Z,
It did something no other sports car has every done, it changed the automotive landscape, It proved that a sports car didn’t have to have the issues of english, Italian, or German sports cars, and beat them at the track to boot! If you don’t want to see the truth, don’t run out, find and read 1969-1973 issues of Road and Track, Car and Driver, or just about any other car magazine from any country from that time period. Add to that its SCCA C production and ProRally Manufacturers domination, its East African Safarri wins, and obviously there is no legend here.
Automotive journalists from around the world established the 240Z as the best of what was out there-and that started the Zs progression to the worlds best selling sportscar-which it still is. I won’t even get into the racing history of the Z32, but
Back to the GTR, Compare it to any car for assembly quality-fit finish and performance-on a digital scale with no room for legendary mystery(Marketing department justification) and it will at least equal the cars in question-ask Bruno Sena…
How about defining exactly what you get with a Porsche that you don’t get with a GTR-remember this one guideline: What you can’t explain-you obviously don’t understand yourself…
Both Nissan and Porsche have been building cars since 1910 or so, But Nissan has made more in any one of several years than Porsche has made in the sum of its existance. That counts every car ever built with any connection to a member of the Porsche family or business(even back when the family business was plumbing)
