Windows Update Error 0x800B0001

When running windows update on Windows XP from Internet Explorer you have come across the Error 0x800B0001 – Windows Update. You are unable to get Windows Update to work. What do you do? Here is the solution:

  1. Click on Start
  2. Click on Run
  3. In the Run dialog box type the following: regsvr32 wuapi.dll
  4. Click OK
  5. Repeat steps 1-4 for the following files wuaeng.dll, wucltui.dll, wups.dll, wuweb.dll, atl.dll
  6. Open Internet Explorer and try windows update again.
  7. Rejoice!

    I would be weary about your fix as Microsoft has a very different one.

    Not only does my solution work like a charm, it will also save you the time of having to sift through all the un-necessary text on the Microsoft website. I have used this fix before several times, however nothing is guaranteed. Even Microsoft can’t guarantee a perfect solution non the less a perfect operating system. We’ve clearly seen that, right?
