The HTC EVO Shift 4G smartphone running Android 2.2 is available from Sprint on January 9.
The Shift 4G has a slightly smaller screen than its predecessor the EVO 4G and also loses the front facing camera. Screen size has been reduced from 4.3 to 3.6 inches. This means those who want to video conference are out of luck apparently. What you gain with the Shift 4G is a slide out keyboard.
Being a current EVO 4G owner I can attest that typing on the standard EVO 4G keyboard can be challenging at times. A slide out keyboard should be a big advantage to those power texters with thumbs of fury.
The EVO Shift 4G costs $150 after a $100 mail-in rebate and a two-year service agreement. Sprint’s 3G data plan starts at $70 a month, plus an additional $10 a month, if you want access to the 4G WiMax service.
